Description

Southern Hens Whole Baking Hens can provide a variety of great and healthy meal options with delicious rich flavors. Mature hens (these are retired laying birds) are tougher and needs to be cooked longer and with low heat to bring out the best flavor results ?. but the wait is so worth it. The slower you cook the chicken, the better. That’s the overall rule for cooking protein. These hens can be baked, stewed, or put in slow cooker resulting with tons of meal options such as soups, broth, stock, chicken and dumplings, gumbo, fricassee, jambalaya, curry, chicken pot pies and chicken salad. Not to mention a variety of noodle and rice dishes also. You can throw the chicken into a slow cooker with some fresh vegetables, salt, pepper, rosemary, parsley, and an onion. Place the cooker on low and let the bird cook all day or 6-12 hours by doing this method then absolutely nothing goes to waste. If you left the bird whole, you can eat the meat off of the bone (approx. 5 lbs.), then throw the veggie scraps and bones back in the crock pot on low and let it cook overnight. In about 12 hours it will provide 4-5 qtrs. of super delicious rich stock. Our frozen baking hens are keto friendly with zero sugar and zero carbohydrate per 3 oz. serving. If you are looking for an option that is high in protein and low in fat, look no further than our frozen baking hens. Peanut Free. Allergen Free. 25G Protein Per Serving. 160 Calories Per Serving.
